Perl is a scripted language which is very common on m any web sites, especially those running the Apache server. Perl is similar to the C language and is very simple to learn. The language is interpreted at runtime, making it very simple for webmasters to modify scripts.

Perl is an acronym for "Practical Extraction and Reporting Language", although that name is not used anymore.
